Redesign of an upwind rotor for a downwind configuration: design changes and cost evaluation

Abstract. Within this work, an existing model of a Suzlon S111 2.1 MW turbine is used to estimate potential cost savings when the conventional upwind rotor concept changed into downwind concept. A design framework get realistic updates for configuration, as well two including pure material out blades and new planform design. full load basis according standard has been evaluate impact redesigns on loads. detailed with scaling changes costs energy. It shown that generally lower blade mass up 5 % less than redesign can be achieved configurations. Compared baseline, shows estimated energy reduction 2.3 %, designs achieve maximum 1.3 %.
